Wang Zao(1079—1154),styled Yanzhang,was born in Dexing,Raozhou.During Chongning times,he gained the title of Jinshi which meant a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination.Having been appointed to different ranks as an official,he settled in Yongzhou as a result of total degradation.He was a copious poet,skilled in couplet.His works,which was mainly in the area of Siliuwen(a stylistic form),were highly thought of by the people. But most of them were lost or changed with time passing.Fu Xi Ji and Fu Xi Wen Cui are two collections of his personal works.Their different versions are researched in Chapter One.His achievements in Siliuwen benefited a lot from his official position which was related to literature in a way.Their relationship is discussed in the passage together with the literary value of his works.He underwent three degradations.His different attitudes towards degradation had great influences on his poems.The last chapter is aimed to show the influence on his poems' content,theme and style and so on.
