As the first Prime Minister of Canadian federal government,John A.Macdonald did not stick to traditional thinking,timely adopted the"National Policy"which purpose is to make the country fully integrating and developing,on the promise that finished the territory expansion which"From Sea to Sea".It centered on Pacific Railway,immigration and protective tariffs as a supplement.They promoted one another,improved the Canadian comprehensive national strength.The announcement of this policy,effectively promoted Canadian economic development and social progress,has laid a solid foundation of theory and practice for the future development of Canada.So,the dissertation is aimed at Macdonald's"National Policy",reveal the historical background,content and historical situation of"National Policy".It is divided into four parts.Partâ… is preface.It introduces the academic studies and achievement of Macdonald's"National Policy"in Canada and China.Partâ…¡deals with the historical background and content of Macdonald's"National Policy". 1873,When Prince Edward Island joined the Federation,the Canadian dominion completed"From Sea to Sea"territorial expansion.Canada entered with a new stage of consolidation and development.Domestically,it showed that the imbalance between the population development and territorial expansion,the unformed supply of raw materials and merchandise sales market of Canada and the economic bounding of traditional lower-tariff.On international terms,it showed that economic penetration and saber-rattling of the United States and the influence of economic crisis.Therefore,the Canadian Conservative Party put forward the"National Policy"and put into practice.Partâ…¢is the core content of this dissertation.It elaborates the main features of Macdonald's"National Policy".First,the adoption of"incidental protection"tariff policy protected the fragile Canadian national industry,contributed to future economic development. Second,the Canadian Pacific Railway linked the eastern with the western Canada not only geographically but also politically and economically.Finally,western development and immigration promoted the initial development of western region and gradually established a wheat-based economic model of economic development.Partâ…£is the conclusion of this dissertation.It analyses the historical status of Maedonald's"National Policy".The establishment and implementation of Macdonald's"National Policy",resolved a series of questions after"From Sea to Sea"territorial expansion, eliminated the influence of the global economic crisis,effectively boycotted the United States and Britain economic penetration and saber-rattling and encouraged the Canadian future economic and social development.
