This thesis chose the Novel-Schools of Xiaxie and Changmen in Wu region as the researching subject. By focusing on analyzing five typical productions of these two Novel-Schools, the thesis will expose a social picture of Wu region in the period of Late-Qing to Earlier Republic of China.The first part of the thesis will mainly be serving for the introduction of both novel schools, with its definition, classification and background of emerging. This part will also be serving on the other purposes; such as interpreting the word of"Xiaxie", how could it become a novel school; the connection of both schools, and the reason of their flourishing in the region. Further chronicled research of the schools will be narrowed in the grand opening period of ShangHai.The second part will be the character analysis. The authors are majorly local celebrities; it will be trying to make a communication between the authors and the characters they made, in terms of their similarities. The characters are majorly prostitutes with charm and attraction, the thesis will analysis this special social class with different perspective. Some nobodies in the writings will be paid attention, to make our research on the society more sound and reasonable.The third part of the thesis is to define the value of these two novel schools, in the rim of Chinese literature heritage. These products of works had turned from past-time entertainment into valuable contemporary documents. And the adoption of"Wu"dialect in the novels is indeed a highlight.Both schools of novel have great implications, in terms of social, expressional and entertaining. The research of the Schools excluded the complex inside world of locals and the dramatic outside environment under the certain period time of change, in the history of China.
