In Tang Dynasty,Chinese Buddism was in a period of great prosperity,but there were also some undesirable phenominon.As one of them,corruption of Buddist monks and nuns are often found in historical materials.The corruption of Buddist monks and nuns is also an important aspcts of Buddism in Tang Dynasty,just as its posititive performances,and it is not only a serious issue in Tang Dynasty,but also has severe effct on later ages.No enough attention was paid to this issue previously.If we pay attention to this issue and study it,it will be beneficial for us to understand Buddism in Tang Dynasty more comprehensively and correctly,and understand some issues about Buddism and society of later ages.In this thesis,I try to probe into it thorouthly and specially,so as to present a complete picture of this issue in the respects of its causes,its expressions,its influences and the measures for it adopted by the government and the Buddist Circle at that time.The full text is made up of four parts:The first part gives a brief account of the corruption of Buddist monks and nuns in Tang Dynasty.At first,I sketch out its development in this term,then,discribe its expressions at three levels of Buddist disciplines,social standards and government decrees.The secnd part analyzes the causes of the corruption of Buddist monks and nuns in six respects,stress political cause as the main factor for this issue,hold that the Tang Government should bear chief responsibility for this issue.The third part observes the measures taken by the government and the Buddist Circle to contain the corruption.The fourth part analyzes the negative influence of this issue on the social image of Buddism in Tang Dynasty,and the negative influence on the later ages.
