Objective:Due to there were no standardization of two-channel audio-visual materials to stimulate emotions,so these studies aimed to evaluate video materials that capable for eliciting four discrete specific emotions(amusement, disgust, fear and anger) and neutral state. To compare with film materials that have been quantified, discussed the effects of elicitation of video materials and its features.Methods:①Selected out materials which could induce amusement, anger, disgust, fear and neutral from Gross's film clips, then applied to Chinese college students.②According to steps of quantitative evaluate emotional film clips, collected 178 video materials, classified and edited them. The candidate pool contained 33 videos had been formed. Recruited 373 College students evaluate these videos subjectively and select out 10 effective video materials which induced amusement, disgust, anger, fear and neutral. Induced effects on videos and gender difference had been discussed.③Picked up neutral, amusement and anger materials induce emotions to 34 male participants and recorded indexes change of peripheral physiological synchronously to discuss characteristics of subjective experiences and physiological reactions of specific emotions.Results:①Results of subjective assessment of emotional film clips showed that the intensity of target emotion of induced amusement(4.26±2.48) and fear(4.09±2.33) materials were comparatively low,the discreteness of target emotion of disgust(35.2%) and anger(45.1%) were also comparatively low.Discriminate analysis showed that amusement has low prediction rate(76.5%).②According to intensity and discreteness of the subjective assessment to target emotion, selected out the 10 most effective videos,2 videos under every emotional category. The features of these videos were high intensity of target emotion, also had better discreteness except disgust videos.Through further validity analysis, the average prediction rate of subjective assessment to materials of amusement, anger, disgust, fear and neutral state was 85.9%.Amusement,anger and fear has been scored high prediction rate, which were 90.5%,99%,90.3%.Results of within-subject ANOVA indicated that videos induced amusement, anger, disgust and fear had obviously emotional main effect(p<0.001);the pair-wise comparison showed that target emotions intensity of mostly videos were significantly higher than non-target emotions(p<0.05). There was only one fear video which target emotion has no significantly difference to tension.Hierarchical cluster analysis showed that most of videos could be classified into emotion category correctly.Male and female subjects had high intense experience to different emotional content respectively.③The changes of dermal electric and heart rate were the most obvious in each emotion elicited stages.Videos that elicit amusement and anger cause rise of skin temperature, dermal electric and heart rate. The changes of heart rate by amusement videos were different from each other. The physiological indices of anger evoked videos were no significant difference. The changes of dermal electric and heart rate under amusement were different from anger significantly, and LFnu and HFnu were also different. The physiological indices of high intensity emotional experience and low intensity emotional experience were no significant difference. Conclusion:Subjects had low level degree with Western emotion elicitation materials because of different cultural backgrounds. The emotional component evoked by test quite different from Western subjects.Through collection and selection procedure,10 videos that can successfully evoke 4 specific emotions(amusement, disgust, anger and fear) and neutral statement had been obtained.Validity test confirmed that they have a high effect to induce emotion, and the content of these materials was more in line with the context of Chinese culture than the film clips. The intensity of most videos was higher than films. The gender difference was not obvious. The emotional experience was related to the content of materials.Physiological responses caused by stimulus of amusement and anger were overlapped.Individual autonomic nervous system response had different advantages in amusement and anger. There were segregations between emotional experience and physiological responses.
