The Translation Of Beijing Dialects And Culture-loaded Items

Lao She is called "People's Artist".He is one representative writer of Modern Chinese Literature in 20^th century.His works with various subject matters,and have enjoyed great popularity around the world,which are famous for humorous styles, strong local color,and especially his typical Beijing dialects.His works have been translated into 24 languages.And Camel Xiangzi is one of the representatives.This thesis analyses the translation of Beijing dialects appearing in the dialogues,in psychology description and in scenery description,and culture-loaded items.And then we will analyze the translator's translation styles and strategies.In the literary translation,the translation of the dialect and culture-loaded items are always the most difficult.With the close relationship between China and foreign land,the requirements are much more than before.However,dialects and culture -loaded items have strong "nationality",so it brings some untranslatable difficulties.This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the translation of dialects and culture-loaded items.We also have a general expatiation of the translator's translation strategies.In chapter two,there is an introduction to Lao She and his work Luotuo Xiangzi, which gives us Shi's translation strategies and the definition of dialect.In chapter three,we come to the case study.The writer emphasizes the dialect translation.Because the dialect translation is so difficult in the literary translation,so Shi Xiaojing chose different translation strategies in her translated version.Chapter four gives us comments on culture-loaded items.Because of the differences between two cultures,the culture translation is the biggest problem in the translation.Shi's translated works had some problems in translating the Beijing dialects.Chapter five is a brief summery.It gives us the significance of the study and the demerits of this study.
