As the most active subject in translation, translator was neglected and depressed in traditional translation theories. Since cultural turn happened in the west in1970s, translation studies has developed from focusing on linguistic equivalence to on cultural elements. People begin to pay attention to translator’s position and functions."Translator’s subjectivity" has been a newly studied hotspot in the translation field.Luotuo Xiangzi is the first novel produced by Lao She since he became a professional writer. It is also a representative of Lao She’s "Beijing Flavor" novels. One of the characteristics of the novel is the widely application of "Beijing Flavor" words. In order to better study the influences of translator’s subjectivity on "Beijing Flavor" words translation, the author chooses three English versions produced in different period respectively translated by Evan King, Shi Xiaojing and Howard Goldblatt.In different times with different social backgrounds and cultural environments, the translators’living experience, cultural quality, translation thoughts and so on are bound to differ from each other. These subjective and objective factors bring effect on their translations with no doubt. Focusing on studying translator’s initiative and passivity, the author tries to analyze the influences of translator’s cultural attitudes, translation purposes, personal competence as well as social and political environment translator lives in on overall comprehension of translation styles and adoption of detailed translation strategies or methods from both macro and micro perspective.We can better understand the differences and reasons of one word with varied translations through analyzing translator’s subjective factors and restrained factors."Beijing Flavor" words, with strong local flavor, are created by people in their practice of everyday life which bring more challenge for translators and offer more opportunities for their subjectivity playing.
