ObjectiveTo investigate the current psychological situation of the college students at a medical university, to analyze the interpersonal psychological situation of freshman when they are transferred to a new environment, to valuate the psychological anxiety of graduates under financial crisis, and to provide proof for psychological intervention on college students.Methods1. The sampling and grouping: 100 freshmen majoring in clinical medicine enrolled in 2008 were categorized into freshman group; 100 sophomores in clinical medicine enrolled in 2007 were categorized into sophomore group; 100 students due to graduate in 2008, 25 respectively in clinical medicine, biomedical engineering, nursing and integrated Chinese and western medicine, were selected and categorized into 2008 graduates group ; 100 students due to graduate in 2009, 25 respectively in clinical medicine, biomedical engineering, nursing and integrated Chinese and western medicine, were selected and categorized into 2009 graduates group;2. Time of psychology evaluations: It was in October, 2008 that the psychology evaluation for freshman group and sophomore group was conducted. The psychology evaluations for the two graduates groups were in the March of the year of graduation.3. Evaluation tools and analysis: first, the Self-reported Symptom Inventory (SCL-90) was applied to an overall assessment of the four groups. The comparative analysis based on gender and groups were made. Meanwhile, symptoms distributions of students with psychological problem or psychological problem tendency were analyzed. Then, the comprehensive interpersonal diagnosis table was applied to the freshman group and the sophomore group respectively. A symptoms distribution of students with interpersonal tension was generalized based on the analysis of gender and grade .Finally, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) was applied to the two graduates groups which were of the higher anxiety degree. A comparative analysis into anxiety distribution was made based on gender, group and major.4. Quality control: the investigation was done on a volunteering basis of students. The teachers involved were trained to make the on-the-spot writing records and the instructions. The students participating were requested to fill in the table in the assigned time.Results1. From the overall evaluation and analysis of psychological situations of the students, the following results can be found: (1) The percentage of students with psychological diseases and the disease occurrences were relatively high. The percentage of students with psychological diseases was 23.4% and the percentage of students with psychological diseases inclination was 50.5%. Female students showed a worse psychological situation than male students. (2) The occurrence of hostility topped in the distribution and statistic results of the students' psychological diseases or disease inclination. Freshman and sophomore showed a relatively high incidence in interpersonal psychological symptoms. The two graduates groups displayed a higher incidence in anxiety , 36.7% of the 2008 group and 49.3% of the 2009 one. The occurrence of crankiness was 41.8% and Al.9% respectively.2. It can be deducted from the analysis of the adaptation period of freshman to interpersonal relation that freshman group and sophomore group showed a higher interpersonal problem rate. 30.9% of them had severe symptoms. Freshman group showed a higher interpersonal problem rate than sophomores. Students from other places showed a higher interpersonal problem rate than those from Guangdong province.3. The evaluation and analysis on the stress response of the graduates revealed that the graduates suffered from the unfavorable psychological condition that the serious anxiety rate was as high as 26.11%. Female students displayed a higher rate than male students, and the 2009 group showed a high rate than the 2008 one. The nursing graduates demonstrated a lower anxiety rate than those from other majors according to the analysis on the basis of majors.Conclusion1. The overall psychological situation of the students from the university is rather stable. However, it fluctuats drastically during the freshman adaption period and graduation period, which requires better attention.2. More importance should be put on the trainning of interpersonal skill to freshman during the adaption period.3. Trainings on employment instruction, psychological intuition and job-hunting skills should be exerted to the to-be graduates.4. Detailed psychological education plans should be made aiming at the genders, majors and origines of students.
