At the same time, Williams points out that culture is a complex, dynamic process of formation, and reveals the power behind the choice of cultural complexity, which haves a great importance on the cultural studies and the cultural phenomenon. Besides, Williams also keeps the culture with the times. When the classical Marxism, formalism and structuralism research methods can not solve new problems faced by, Williams re-releases classical Marxism and take the culture into the broader social and historical material, points out that in fact the so-called hegemony is a complex process of cultural formation. His innovation lies that he understands the culture as a social and material production process, which he criticizes the vulgar materialism and economic determinism.
