To learn English efficiently and improve the language ability is the only way of contemporary college students to adapt society, constant perfection and self-development. For efficient learning on its own, it is an extremely complex system. Over the past 20 years, it has become a scientific frontier to be commonly intentioned and comminuted tackling by multidisciplinary and has made many important achievements. However, a considerable number of students are still in "little, slow, bad wasteful" unreasonable models in the combination of educational theories, models and learning practice. That is to say, the efficiency of learning English has not really improved.There are many factors which can cause to low efficiency in learning English, such as motivation, interest, emotion, and learning strategy and so on. However, in recent years, researchers have a further deep sense of the material basis consciousness-brain, and its impact on the efficiency of learning is got more and more people's attention.This thesis describing the development of brain science and research results aims to take the improvement of learning efficiency as the core, which points out the role of function, emotional mechanism and plasticity of brain from the perspective of guiding teaching and learning. Moreover, the author analyzes the factors affecting the learning efficiency, through the investigation on learning situations of freshmen in a college, so as to reveal the significance on protecting brain, using brain and exploiting brain in the process of learning English. This thesis aims to find out factors which influence brain to be involved in learning by means of doing a survey about students' learning situations. Based on the investigation, it is necessary to make reflections on how to improve college students' learning English efficiency; as well the six corresponding strategies and solutions are put forward, they are identifying proper time to use brain; mobilizing of left and right brain to learn collaboratively; playing the role of "emotional brain"; stressing the conversion between the language areas; cultivating brain plasticity and using brain scientifically to improve English learning efficiency, in order to achieve high-efficiency English learning of college students.
