| As we all know, the human brain,as the “headquarter” of the human body, controls human language, senses, and emotional expression and regulates the central functions of digestion, respiration, circulation, and so on.Scientists have been working tirelessly in this field;they aim to gain a deeper understanding of the brain’s operational mechanisms and provide more references for clinical solutions to brain-related diseases with the help of advanced science and technology. The material selected for this simulated consecutive interpreting practice report comes from Brain Science in China,a popular science live program sponsored by the EEG Special Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society and the Social Cognition Branch of the Chinese Society for Cognitive Science. This report chooses the lectures given by Professor Hu Xiaoqing, the 41 st speaker of the program,as the interpreting material. The whole material lasts one hour and ten minutes. The speaker introduced several sets of experiments to popularize the classification of emotional memory, the interaction mechanism of sleep, emotion, and memory, and how to intervene in emotional memory during sleep.Guided by the interpretive theory, the report analyzes various problems encountered in interpreting, such as professional terms, discourse redundancy, incomplete sentences, and frequent use of spoken connectives resulting in blurred logical relationships between sentences. Therefore, the strategies of background knowledge complement, omitted information complement, simplification, sentence restructuring,logic-processing,and combination are summarized according to the triangle model of interpretive theory to discuss and reflect on the interpreting.Through this interpreting report, the interpreter has deepened her understanding of the interpretive theory guiding similar scientific materials and accumulated the application of related strategies in interpreting. It is hoped that the report will guide the interpreter’s further learning and provide reference for other interpreters. |
