Since reform and opening up, China has increased its cultural communications with other countries in the world. Films and TV programs as a carrier of human culture are increasingly produced every year. People in different cultures have acquired a set of beliefs, ideas, thinking patterns of their own, which presuppose how they interpret and view things. So the translation of film subtitle is always a tough issue, and one of the influential factors is the transference of pragmatic presupposition.Pragmatic presupposition is a hot topic in pragmatic study in recent years. As the different cognitive environments between the authors and the reader or the audience, pragmatic presupposition may be an understanding obstacle in the cross-cultural communication. This requires the translator understand the original text and use some coherent strategies to give audience the correct translation of the source language. Therefore, the translator should pay attention to the impact of pragmatic presupposition and get the effective transference in the film subtitle translation.This article tries to explore the cognitive and psychological reasons of pragmatic presupposition from the new perspective of Relevance Theory. Pragmatic presupposition involves hearer's cognitive inference and comes from the relevant seeking of participants in the process of communication. This paper aims to transfer pragmatic presuppositions to the target language audience under the guidance of Relevance Theory.Pragmatic presuppositions have a great value in communication, so translators should pay great efforts to the transference of pragmatic presuppositions to the target language audience.
