From a scientific perspective, dream is a spontaneous mental activity which is generated by people who sleep at a certain process and under the status of awareness. This spontaneity makes people generated imagined images, sound, consideration or feeling during sleep, usually involuntary. In the course of the whole mental activity, the individual is undergoing the physical and psychological change that is known as the dream. It is an in dispensable part of human life. The main body of this article starts with this basic concept, carding the inner connections between the dream and the literature step-by-step, and then summarizing the basic features, fictitious, authenticity as well as the performance function and the structure function of leading character's dream in literary works. The article mainly analyzes the leading character Anna Karenina's dream carries on to the Tolstoy work.The first chapter elaborates the relationships between the dream and the literature. The dream is an essential component in human spiritual life; it is the normal reaction to the human psychological process. Relationships between the dream and the literature are always very close. In the ancient myths, legends, folk tales and literary creation, "Dream" has been the particular existence of literature, and has been described as a lasting charm of life.Chapter II of this article describes the heroine's dream in Tolstoy's work. The paper describes the main character's dreams in details and makes a detailed analysis. Particularly, by describing Anna Karenina's dream, the article fully display the heroine Anna Karenina's complex inner world, as well as the intention of the author's writing.Chapter III of this article summarizes the rational characteristics of dream in Tolstoy's work. Dream is critical which is specifically shown in taking advantage of the form the dream, criticizing the social life of the various evils in order to achieve the purpose of awakening the people across the world. A dream also has an ideal and transcendence character. There is always something in the dreams that make people produced a kind of incomprehensible illusions and hopes. Dream also has the characteristic of predictability. The function of Predict of dreams has its rational basis.Chapter IV of this article summarizes the literary function of the dream in Tolstoy's work. Literary dream has the performance function and the structure function. About its performance function, the functions of the literary dream mainly have: Open heart; reveal the real emotion in the depths of the soul of people. According to these, literary dream means to point to the outside of the dream or the reality. Transform perspective; create the object that we don't familiar with. About its structure function, its functions mainly have: it can foretell things, serve as a link and promote the development of plot; participate in the creative process, reveal the psychological activities; reflect the real life.Dream and literature are products of the human spirit activities; they can reflect the objective reality. The illusoriness and fuzziness of the dream, the vagueness and implicitly of literature have the same effect. The use of dream in literary works can indicate people's inner world, and its purpose is to create a context with rich emotions. Therefore, the study of dream in Tolstoy's works has high aesthetic value.
