Research On The Official Script Variant Forms Of Chinese Characters In Eastern Han Dynasty

The official script is also named the accessorial script or the historical script. The official script was evolved and simplified by the seal script.The modern archaeology discovered that the official script formed at least in the late period of Warring States.The official script was used widely in Han Dynasty and Wei Dynasty. The official script is an important transitional typeface of the ancient typeface to the now typeface. In the developing process of the Chinese characters, the old character often does not withdraw from the historical arena, after the new characters appears.Specially in the Eastern Han Dynasty, each kind of typeface mutually affects exceptionally intensely, the identical character often has many kinds of different mode of writing. Many variant forms appeared in that time.There wre many steles in Eastern Han Dynasty, in the mid and late stage of the Eastern Han Dynasty specially.The major part of Chinese characters in Han Dynasty which were collected by the ancients also belonged to the Eastern Han Dynasty mid and late stage. The the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty reflected the appearance of the evolution of the Chinese characters observably.In order to deeply get to know and understand the Chinese character used in those periods, this thesis takes the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty as the research target and makes an analysis on their origin and structure with large numbers of specific examples to a certain degree.This thesis is composed of five sections:The first part is literature review which gives a brief account to the official script in Eastern Han Dynasty and the definition as well as achievement of the variant Chinese character in the present academic circle.The second part analyzes the structure of the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty with abundant specific variant Chinese characters as examples.The third part analyzes the origin and the changing of the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty with abundant specific variant Chinese characters as examples.The fourth part arrays the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty according to the order of Chinese Big Dictionary.The last part is a conclusion that sums up the gain and loss of this dissertation.All these studies help readers generally get to know and understand the the official script variant forms of Chinese characters in Eastern Han Dynasty.
