The Design Research On The Evolution Of Traditional Official Script

Chinese characters are the cornerstone of Chinese traditional culture. The development of Chinese characters is closely combined with the five thousand years of Chinese cultural tradition. In the history, the social and technological revolution caused the changes of cultural structure. As the carrier of culture, Chinese characters also changed with the changes of the cultural structure. As Mr. Rao Zongyi once said:"the core of Chinese culture is Chinese characters, and also become the banner China spiritual."This paper takes the official script font as research object, carries on the comprehensive inference and analysis of its origin and development from the perspective of the design, which reflect the evolution of Chinese characters font. It explores the Chinese characters font development trajectory from the microscopic perspective by analyzing of the specific language of graphic design.This paper mainly discusses how the official script fonts integrated the factors of social, cultural, political, and economic and corrected them in the development of different periods. On this basis, this paper is divided into three parts:the origin period, the golden period and the post period of official script font. The first part describes the origin of the official script font, which is the key to understand it. It combines several factors such as the folk, tool material and single written language, to explain how the origin of the official script font. Then it analyzes the development and evolution of official script font in its gold period (Qin and Han dynasty). At this stage, the official script font is influenced greater by social culture. Therefore in this part mainly discusses the promotion factors of the official script font from development to maturity, such as the aesthetic culture and the scholar class-the Emperor, the officials and individuals. Finally, in the post period, it carries on with the elaboration from two perspective, one is a longitudinal comparison, analyzing the impact of official script font on regular script and cursive script font; another is the horizontal comparison, analyzing the development of official script font in the post period.The emergence of official script font is a revolution of the Chinese character fonts, which sets the foundation for the later fonts. To some extent, official script font is a kind of visual language, which has very important significance for the produce of print fonts and the develoopment of the Chinese modern graphic design. In a word, the purpose of this study is to provide the reference of basic theory of modern design context.
