Along with economic development, all-round social progress and more frequent interactions between countries, students are required to improve their communicative ability to a higher level. Under the circumstances, the Traditional English Teaching which is teacher-centered and text-based exhibits more and more disadvantages. On the basis of the theoretical foundation of Interactive Language Teaching, the author proposes the Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching in the thesis and aims to investigate the effect of this model on students'communicative output. The Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching emphasizes on classroom interaction. In the interactive college English class, combining the teaching plan and students'interest, the teacher organizes various kinds of communicative activities; students are the masters of the class and all of them have abundant opportunities to participate in classroom discussion equally. In addition, the Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching attaches importance to different interactive patterns, besides teacher-student interaction and student-student interaction; teacher-teacher interaction and computer-student interaction are valued. The author conducts the empirical study in China University of Petroleum (Qingdao Campus) from September 2008 to January 2009, lasting 17 weeks. The subjects of the study are 123 freshmen and the instructor is one of the author's former colleagues. Questionnaires, tests, interviews and classroom observation are employed in the study and the data from them are analyzed under the help of SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science). From the results, the two hypotheses have been testified. One of them is that the Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching can boost students'oral English production and the other one is that this model can enhance students'communicative writing proficiency. Both oral English production and communicative writing belong to communicative output. In the process of the study, the author finds the students taught by the Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching can indeed speak and write more fluently than the students who are taught in the traditional way, but there are many syntactic errors in their speaking and besides syntactic errors, also many misspellings in their communicative writing. There is no perfect teaching method or approach. At present the Traditional English Teaching is facing unprecedented challenges, so more and more people are trying to explore more effective college English teaching models and the Interactive Model of College English Classroom Teaching which the author proposes is only one of them.
