A Study Of The Application Of News English In College English Teaching-Based On Constructivist Theory

With the reformation of college English teaching, many new teaching approaches have been applied in college English teaching. In this thesis, the author mainly studies the application of news English in college English teaching, and this study is based on constructivist theory. Constructivism theory emphasizes learner-centeredness, collaborative learning, autonomous learning and authentic learning environment. It stresses the positive meaning construction of the learners.This thesis adopts an experimental method, and it consists of three parts, including an introduction, the main body and a conclusion. The main body consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, the author offers a literature review of constructivism, including the definition, the development and the features of constructivism, the teaching method and the roles of teachers and students. Chapter two is concerned with the application of news English in college English teaching. This approach is instructed by constructivism. The author firstly gives a general view on news English, including its definition and its features, and then deals with the combination of news English with college English teaching by giving many examples. Chapter three is an experimental design, including classroom observations, questionnaire and test. The results and some analysis and discussions are followed. Some suggestions and implications are given in the last chapter.The key objective of this thesis is to study the approach of applying news English in college English teaching, based on the constructivism and to prove that this approach has a positive effect on improving the students'comprehensive ability.The main findings of this research are that the constructivist theory is an effective teaching and learning theory which has provided a solid theoretical basis for college English teaching and that the application of news English can improve the teaching and learning effect. Hopefully, this research can provide a new angle of view in teaching college English.
