The Qin and Han Dynasties is a period of China's unification in history, during which inner Mongolian region plays a significant role. Located in the northern border of the motherland, it was a place for nomadic people to live for generations. Due to its specialty in geographical condition and political sense, it was a place full of cultural conflict and melting between agricultural and nomadic people, a focal area captured by Central Plains Dynasty and Xiongnu (a minority group) and a new region for governors in the Qin and Han Dynasties to carry out economic development. At the beginning of the establishment of a unified country of multi people, governors in the Qin and Han Dynasties had brought inner Mongolian region into the governance of Central Plains Dynasty by means of expanding borders, immigrating and setting up counties in northern border. Meanwhile, the Qin and Han Dynasties progressively organized massive immigration to inner Mongolia region and developed it by way of stationing troops and masses to open up wasteland. The all-round development oriented by immigration and stationing troops laid the foundation of the motherland's northern border and promoted the development of inner Mongolia region and the improvement of agricultural productivity. Besides, it was helpful for the Qin and Han Dynasties to consolidate northern border and the northern economy developed into a combination of agriculture and pasture, thus forming the basic development structure melted with the Central Plains. Meanwhile, the immigration to inner Mongolia region quickened the pace of national and cultural melting between Hanchu in Central Plains and ethnicity in the northern area.
