The emergence of a pen is the greatest invention for mankind, it contributes a lot to the development of language, and thus history and culture could be communicated and transcended. Meanwhile, as an important part of traditional creature, the pen suggests far-reaching cultural, artistic and social Significance. In addition, a pen is a necessity for modern life and learning. This paper studies the evolution of the pen and its design. The former part of the paper focuses on the evolution of the pen and the latter launches an analysis on the design of modern pens. This paper explores the process of evolution of Chinese pens, from the prototype of the pen, such as branches, stones to the emergence and development of brushes. In the 19th century, a variety of pens flew into China, ball-point pens and pencils appeared in china, and they have got a certain degree of development, which constitutes the development history of Chinese pen. It is significant to make a profound analysis on the behavioral targets and conditions of their evolution, using the method logy of science of human affairs, and to conclude the internal and external factors for the evolution of the pen. Therefore, this paper may be constructive for practice. With the development of the modern economy, pens industry has been mature to some extent; however the design of pens is still not canonical. Given this, according to ergonomics, psychology of design, science of human affairs and other subjects relating to the design, the second part of the paper carries the thought of "people-oriented" into the practice of pen-designing. Analyzing all aspects of the design, from the diameter, length, shapes, colors to materials, this paper attempts to sum up the main trends for the development of modern pens.
