Research On The Design Of Ancient China Time-measuring Tools

Time is closely related to the every aspect of human life, so time measurment is very important. There are rich variety of timing devices, such as clock,telephone and wristwatch. In the ancient China,people had special ways of timing to serve the national economy and the people's lives, which includes shadow meathod of the height,to know the time by funnle and milary spherey.Sharp tools make good work. The timing devices are the tools to measure time. Obtaining accurate numerical value depends specialized and accurate timing measures. With the development of society and science and technology,the ancient China time-measuring tools have gradually developed from measuring shadow meathod of the height to gnomon, sundial, machine timer and other time-measuring tools. In addition, there are other time-measuring tools such as oil lantern clock,candle clock,watch incence. In the design process of time-measuring tool, it emphasize the relation of material and measurement precision to the perfect marriage between art and technology. In addition, on the basic of scentific and practical measurment, it also emphasizes the aesthetic pursuit. It is decorated with patterns of dragon ,lotus and white rabbit, which embody the special traditional symbolic meaning of ancient China time-measuring tool. On the basic of its structure and principle of work, it increases the interest of telling time by using the poppet pounding drum and cymbal.This article integrates an astronomy issue of science area into the study of artistic area.
