On Emperor Long Qing And His Time

This dissertation studies an abnormal emperor--Long Qing who was the twelfth emperor in Ming dynasty and his unusual period. Emperor Long Qing was on the throne only five and a half years, whose afflicted fate made his distorted personality. Being depressed for a long time, he finally became the emperor of Ming dynasty, and then the disordered character developed in the extreme way: abandoned the national affairs and his honest ministers, at the meantime put the treacherous ones on the important positions. It is undoubted that: Emperor Long Qing was an incompetent lord, even he was assisted by Gao Gong and Zhang Juzheng who were the super-power groups.However, the Long Qing period was not decadent because of this inept emperor. The influential Cabinet should be considered as an important reason. This Cabinet appeared when the Prime minister was abolished. At Long Qing's time, the power of Cabinet was reaching the peak in the whole Ming dynasty, which transferred the negative conditions and got out of the disadvantageous politics since Jia Jing time gradually. After the revolution, the prosperity appeared: financial crisis was mitigated; the peaceful situation with Mongolia was realized; the military conflict with Japan was decreased.The commanding Cabinet comprised the discrepancy between the ministers Xu Jie, Zhang Juzheng and Gao Gong, however, this personal disagreement did not effect their cooperation for the government affairs, which based for the Wan li time. Hence, this five-year authority should not be neglected, which brought the next glory.
