The Boxer Movement is one of the important events in modern Chinese history. There are different perspectives and methods of the study about this movement both at home and abroad. Using news papers and periodicals to understand the history is a new way currently attracting researchers. "Qing Yi" Journal existed from December, 1898 to December, 1901 when the Boxer Movement happened. By reports and reviews on the Boxer Movement, the propagation of modern thoughts and the understanding of international imperialism, the thesis should look on the ideological situation of "Qing Yi" Journal around the Boxer Movement synthetically and find the influence of ideological modernization of China caused by "Qing Yi" Journal brightly . This thesis contains four parts:The chapter one is the introduction. It mainly illustrates the reasons of choosing this subject, existing researches, and the survey of "Qing Yi" Journal.The chapter two introduces the Boxer Movement in the view of "Qing Yi" Journal which has four stages. The first stage discusses "Qing Yi" Journal reports on the upsurge of the Boxer Movement between the beginning of the publication and spring 1900; the second stage deals with the development of the Boxer Movement during spring and summer in 1900. During this period, the movement quickly spread to Zhili province, Peking and Tianjin; the third stage analyzes the climax of the Boxer Movement from the declaration of war to Ally by Qing dynasty to the fall of Peking. The Boxer Movement became the focus of "Qing Yi" Journal; The fourth stage talks about the failure of the Boxer Movement.The chapter three introduces the propaganda of "Qing Yi" Journal on modern thought. There are four aspects in it including the propaganda of civil rights, the propaganda of the reform of the national character, the propaganda of political party politics and the propaganda of the imperialism. Earlier period mainly propagated the civil rights and the reform of the national character, later period mainly propagated the political party politics and there were a lot of discussion about the aggressive character of imperialism and the development of the imperialism.The chapter four is the concluding remarks of the thesis.
