Gamble was very popular in WeiJin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. Participating in the gambling on social strata, throughout the emperor, bureaucracy and personages to ordinary people were drawn to it. The gambling activities were much more popular, public and social in that period, and showed the abnormal prosperity. Then whoever with athletic color, could decide the outcome of the game should wager can be used more frequently, but the major gambling activities, and were chupu, playing chess, tanqi, woshuo(shuanglu) and cockfight etc. Besides the rulers'participate and indulgent, there were many reasons why WeiJin and southern and northern dynasties gambling ethos, including the stirring time people had the spree of life consciousness, the pursuit of wealth and the pursuit of the dissolute, and the personal survival and development needs, especially, as the decline of Confucianism culture, the ideological culture was very active and free and had pluralism of moral standards. And as well as the rise of pure conversations of metaphysics, the literati and broad-mindedness, pursued the bold and promiscuity, and due to the fate of life combining with gambling, etc. Prevailing of gambling not only wasted a lot of money and labor but also brought a negative influence to society and nation. It also aggravated the characters of gentry and ancestry. The government considered the harm and forbid the gambling, and many people of insight had words to gambling, or far away from gambling, In addition, the Buddhist culture also opposed the gambling. To a certain extent, helped to purify social spirit. Because forbidding gamble mostly belonged to individual behavior and didn't rise to the national level, therefore, the effect was not very significant. Gambling was a way to observe the social custom, Weijin and southern and northern dynasties were a extravagant and negative era.
