By dividing historical period which lasts from Weijin Northern and Southern Dynasties tonow into five different history courses, this study has collected2268Chinese greeting termsfrom more than50novels which were written in the five courses mentioned above. The text hasmade many valuable conclusions and analyses of Chinese greeting language types, frequency ofoccurrence and usage occasion through some forms of listing. On this basis, we explore andanalyse the evolution of Chinese greeting languageā€™s types, frequency of occurrence, usageoccasion and expressions of greetings across the above-mentioned five history courses.Since from the perspective of diachronic evolution, the study finds out, represents, sums upand analyses the types, frequency of occurrence, usage occasion and expressions of greetings ofChinese greeting terms which were recorded in novel texts from Weijin Northern and SouthernDynasties to now, analysing the evolvement rule. The main significance of the study lies inpromoting and enriching the diachronic evolution research and its perspectives in Chinesegreeting, and expanding applied research of diachronic pragmatics in Chinese.
