Researches Into Relations Among Social-support, Temperament And Social-anxiety With College Students

Objective To explore relationship among social support, temperament and social anxiety,and give some advice about counseling and treatment for social anxiety with college students.Method 357 college students in five colleges and universities of Anhui Province were investigated by anonymous questionnaires inclusived Social Phobia Inventory(SPIN),Social Avoidance and Distress Scale(SAD),Perception of Social Support Scale(PSSS),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) and temperament test questionnaire by Chen huichang. A total of 357 valid questionnaires were analyzed.Results (1)The rate of social anxiety among our sample was 8.1%(in male 6.63%,in female 9.42%);Students of science and technology school had the highest rate of social anxiety(14.29%), while those from medical school the lowest(4.55%). It was shown that social anxiety status was not statistically significant associated with sex et al factors byχ2 test. It was shown that social support was negative correlation with social anxiety. (2)There were relevance with source and only child in the tendency of temperament. In four types of temperament,students with melancholic temperament have the highest rate of social anxiety. (3)MANOVA showed Social support and temperament had significant both main effects and interaction effect on social anxiety.Conclusion College students have the level of social support and their own types of temperament the differ effects of the occurrence of social anxiety. psychological counselor in universities and colleges should be given more attention to the students which have a lower degree of social support or have a tendency to melancholic temperament.
