Social support is a contact system among people centralized individuals, this system is composed of individual (being supported) and tlie others (supporter) through sustaining nehaviors. It concludes three aspects, objective support , subjective support and the utilization of support . As to the social support effects upon mental health, there are quire a few researches in the world, and it is generally believed that there are two different models of the socialsupport effects on mental health------the main-effect model and the buffering model . No matter which model it is,close connection between the social support and mental health is indicated.However, this kind of research about children just began, and the researches on concrete social support effects upon mental development about children are rare, too. In order to ascertain the key content of social support effects on children's mental health, and the concrete effects of different qualitative social support and different social supporters as well, we made the research of "A research on social support effects upon mental health about senior high school students". This research uses Social Support Evaluation Measuring Table worker out by XiaoShuiYuan of HuMan Medical college and Symptom Checklist 90 (short in SCL-90) revised by WuWen Yuan of ShaiHai Railway Medical college as tools and the 306 senior students in GuiLin's two different senior high schools as objects. We give a synthetical analysis on the social support items which influence mental health of senior high school students and review its concret effects.This research uses several statistical methods such as correlation analysis., regression analysis, different obvious test. Through these ways, we analyze the connections between social support and menial health of the whole students and the students in different sex and different grades. We also study the difference in menial health condition between the students of different sex and grades with different levels of different social support items, includes the whole level of social support, subjective support . The research shows lhat there are obvious negative correlation between mental health of senior high school students and the whole level of social support, subjective support and the utilization of social support . Among these factors ,!he support of classmates', teachers' and friends', and the activity taking influence mental health more. This proves that favorable social support helps the mental development of student and improving accompanier relationship, teacher-student relationship and more activities in group help to improve thu level of mental health. We have also discovered that, form among the collectivity, the senior high school students with good social support level are in good conditions of mental health, while the senior high school students with good subjective support level are in good conditions of mental health, too. Therefor, this conclusion proves the former conclusion . The research also indicates that : (I) social support influence male students and students of Grade Three more ; (2) when social support is in middle level, some mental factors are in worst condition. This illustrate that the social support effects on mental health influenced by other factors such as (he character factor of individual, social skills, life events, social culture facts and living environment , et al .This essay put forward the following suggestions based on the research : (I) Adult supporters should reconsider their support style and try to create an environment which helps the healthy development of senior high school students ; (2) to organize vigorously common activities, and to create positive conditions for students developing accompanier relationship ; (3) to develop the contact ability of students ; (4) to found school psychology consulting service and to develop the mental health education in school so as to promote the all-round and health development of students.
