English, as an international language, has now become a multinational, multicultural, and multifunctional language in the 21st century. It has been increasingly used for internal, external, intranational and international purposes without participation of its native speakers. English globalization results in its localization or nativization. As a result, non-native English varieties developed worldwide and the concept of "World Englishes" has been proposed. China English is one of the new varieties in this big English family, and is attracting many scholars' interest both home and abroad.The purpose of the present thesis is to make a status confirmation of China English and its implications for English teaching in China, based on the analysis of the linguistic features of China English. It gives a general review of different opinions about China English, makes a comparison between China English and Chinese English, analyzes its distinct features in phonology, lexis, syntax and discourse, and then proves the intelligibility and acceptability of China English. The study of China English especially its linguistic features is of great value to English teaching in China.With the popularity of English in China, English now is as an effective tool to introduce foreign cultures into China and spread Chinese culture in the world as well. Meanwhile, China English with Chinese characteristics is helpful to spread Chinese civilization, culture, and political and economic development. China English greatly enriches English vocabulary and expressions, which makes contribution to English language. Therefore, a good command of China English helps students improve their cross-cultural communicative competence and make transmission of Chinese culture better.This thesis consists of six chapters: Chapter One introduces the background information of this study, the concepts of "World Englishes" and China English, and explains the purpose and layout of this thesis. Chapter Two reviews previous studies on China English, including domestic and foreign scholars' researches, and proves the objective existence of China English. Chapter Three analyzes the differences between China English and Chinese English, and expounds the author's viewpoint on the understanding and definition of China English. Chapter Four describes and analyses the linguistic features of China English at the levels of phonology, lexis, syntax and discourse, and then proves the intelligibility and acceptability of China English. Chapter Five discusses the implications of the study of China English for English teaching in China. A survey of China English in our college shows the significance of China English for English teaching in China. In addition, this chapter proposes some suggestions on how to teach English in a cultural context. Chapter Six summarizes the theoretical studies and research findings in the thesis, analyzes the limitations of this study and offers suggestions for further studies in this field.
