| As an important tool of human communication, language always changes with the development of society. At present, English is the most influential and most widely used language among four thousand languages in the world. In the process of spread around the world, English integrates with other languages and regional cultures and has produced many regional varieties with different characteristics. “China English†is one of these varieties.There are five chapters in this paper. First of all, the writer presents the research background of this study and introduces the emergence and development of English varieties. Second, this chapter includes the main content and the purpose of this study,and then discusses the significance of China English in English teaching from two aspects--the theoretical level and the practical level. Then literature review, firstly introduces the concept of World English and summarizes some controversies of World English. Second, Chapter Two introduces the concept of China English and distinguishes it from Chinese English. Finally, the writer summarizes the three developmental stages of English in China. This will lay a foundation for the analysis of the China English’s development in English teaching. The writer mainly collected many articles and summarizes the role’s transformation of China English in English teaching in nearly 20 years and the three important periods of China English--the Initial Period, the Schools of Thought Contend Period and the Evolution Period. And then the writer summarizes that the role of China English has changed from the error which cannot be understood and used to one kind of English varieties which can be accepted and taught in English teaching. In the research process, the writer uses the questionnaire and does the research on the understanding and usage of China English among college students, and compares the results of this survey with the survey of China English in 2006. The comparative study shows that the role’s transformation of China English is a process of understanding and acceptable. This proves theconclusion of Chapter Three.At last the writer combines the research of China English and the development of China English in English teaching, then gives some advice on how to take the advantages of China English in English teaching in the future. Then the writer puts forward the limitation of this study.This paper first summarizes the researches, the development of “China Englishâ€in twenty years and the role transition in English teaching, and analyzes the causes of transition. And then it discuss the enlightenment of China English’s development in English teaching from teacher training, teaching content and the selection of teaching material. In terms of teaching training:(a) Penetrate more knowledge about English varieties in the process of teacher training.(b) Teachers should not only master the social and culture of English-speaking countries like British and America, but also have in-depth understanding about our native culture.(c) Teachers should pay more attention to students’ language comprehensive ability in English teaching and testing process. In terms of teaching content:(a) Add the introduction of “China English†in the teaching process.(b) Focus on the mixing of different cultures when choosing teaching content.(c) Guide students to collect and use “China Englishâ€. In terms of setting teaching material:(a) Chinese culture and culture of British and America should be in the equally important position.(b) Face the existence and necessity of“China English†and its important role in expressing Chinese culture. |
