Su Shi is an outstanding writer in our country's history of literature. He made fruitful achievements in his writing, and reached a very high achievement in construction of the literary theory. Though he didn't leave a special book on literary theory, he set forth his own opinion extensively and deeply in his a lot of epistles, prefaces and postscripts, manuscript notes, and writings. The pursuit of"naturalness"is a very important idea of literary creation in his literary theory and lots of works. He formed his own unique concept of"naturalness"in the basis of learning from the predecessors, and combined with his own writing practice. Su Shi's concept of"naturalness"has a great impact on the writers of the time, as well as the writers of later generations. His pursuit of"natural literature"played a great role on the process of literary development in Sung dynasty and the later literary history. At present, there are a lot of researches on Su Shi's literary theory, but few researches on his concept of"naturalness". In the foundation of studying on the previous concept of"naturalness", we can get Su Shi's concept of"naturalness", and then we can analyze the causes of Su Shi's concept of"naturalness". I think there are three reasons: theory of origin, social conditions, and subjective reasons. Additionally, I summed up the concept of"naturalness"in Su Shi's literary theory, analyzing from his theory of criticism and writers. Su Shi's views of"naturalness"have a significance and profound influence on the later generations. Therefore, there are explorations of those impacts in the last part.
