Study On Chinese Euphemistic Construction

According to some of the basic theory of linguistics ,and by means of analyzing and summarizing material. this thesis makes a systematic and sophisticated summary of the methods and principles of chinese euphemistic construction. It provides some creative opinions and ideas about chinese euphemistic construction. According to the the basic principles of pragmatic definition. it can be defined from the causes, the context,the devices,the purpose,its features and communicator,etc. and pointed out the causes of chinese euphemisms and their the nature of the characteristics. This dissertation makes an analysis of" A Dictionary of Chinese euphemism "of edited by Zhang Gonggui. It argues:chinese euphemistic construction is divided into four categories:phonetic means﹙omitted syllable,similar syllables,changed syllable,etc.﹚, rhetorical devices﹙analogy, metaphor, metonymy,aparted character,etc.﹚, lexical means﹙the specific allegations, borrowed words,omitting,etc.﹚,semantic means﹙semantics risen, semantic ambiguity, indirect statements, the down-looking statements,etc.﹚.This dissertation discusses the euphemisms arising from the communication context.it contains two models: the grammatical means﹙particle, pronoun, modal, affirmative sentences, negative sentences,etc.﹚,and pragmatic means. pragmatic means include three levels: words, sentences, paragraphs and chapters. This dissertation makes an analysis of euphemistic constructing principle from a psychological point.it include"principle of distance","principle of relevance"and"principle of pleasantness .
