Qalun is classified as a sort of Chordophones with a long history. As a global instruments, qalun have been used in the folk music of many countries and areas, such as Turkey, the Arab countries, Uzbekistan, South of Xinjiang in China and so on . Qalun by the introduction of our country in the 10th and 13th centuries, it was a kind of main instrument in Uygurs music in south of Xinjiang where Kashi, Aksu and Hotan area. It was popular with Uygur and widely used in court music and folk music. Along with the continuity of history and change of environment, the distribution of Qalun is becoming narrowed, and the players of Qalun are also becoming less and less in Xinjiang. At present, qalun is justly used in Dolan music of Uygur that lay in the Markit , Bachu County of Kashi area and Awati of Aksu area. Now qalun has been integrated into the local folk culture in Dolan, and has become a symbol of the culture. Therefore, studying qalun is significant to the research of the Dolan's traditional music culture and inheritance of Uygur folk-intruments.On the basis of previous textual research, according to the author's field investigation, the writing is intended to make a sufficient introduction and analysis on the history, background related to geography and culture, the nature of qalun and the music of qalun as well as inheritance of Qalun Performance and manufactureh which is still preserved among the folks, which will provide some theory experience of Dolan folk music research.
