A Pilgrimage: Shi Tiesheng's Emotional Process Embodied In His Works

Shi Tiesheng is a very special writer of current literary field not only because of his disabled experiences but because his works and his detached attitude toward disability. His works, while representing his struggle and pains in trouble, describes the hard process where he got through into a supernatural level. In this process, his long-term and deep thinking on death and life represents his attempt to get rid of fatal dilemma, and he takes life as a journey on which he pursuits, creates and appreciates beauty and also walk to writing and writing night, which could be taken as his practice to transcend life's hardness and dilemma in an aesthetic way. Facing this dilemma and transcendence, he changes from Buddhism to Christian, and show the way through trouble to super nature with his love.Since Shi Tiesheng stepped into literary field, researches on him and his works never stops, and these researches are already very mature. However, it is relatively weak regarding a systematic psychological research on his writing process. Psychologically this thesis tries to discover and analyze his emotional process embodied in his works referring to his life experiences. Apart from the introduction and summaries, this thesis is made up of three parts with each focusing on different aspects but connected with each other organically, which represents his whole emotional process in his writing.Based on his works, the first part, starting from his disability, shows his thinking findings on disability, life dilemma and life and death, and the final direction of the findings is his positive understandings of these things, and this lays the basis for his breakthrough. Based on the first part, the second part tries to tries to show the writer's unique life philosophy—course aesthetics' annotation and his specific practices to transcend reality in this aesthetic way. The third part focuses on his pursuit of super nature shifting from Buddhism to Christian and finally to the final care of life and love.The three parts are related organically and meet in Shi Tiesheng's expression of the endless pilgrimage. On his way to super nature, he doesn't stop in any religious god to become a crazy believer, but gets into a realm neither Buddhist nor Christian, close to Buddhism and closer to Christian, and stets on the journey of love advocating, which is the final care of human spirit. The ultimate reasons for this are both his thinking and understanding gift, but also his life course aesthetics based on thinking and understanding. In his process of walking to Buddhism and Christian, the thinking and understanding rational mind setting he keeps, together with his course aesthetics lingering about before religions, leads finally him to love advocating and final care of human spirit.
