As of style of Chinese classic poems, Hexasyllabic Poetry had a special status .It was existed From birth to the Qing dynasty, but not highly developed. For this situation, some ancient scholars argueed that Hexasyllabic poetry was a bad style. As a sample, south song dynasty Hong Mai said in his work" Rongzhai San Bi ":All think WUYAN is hard to write, LIUYAN is more harder. Qing dynasty scholar Zhao Yi said in his work" Gai yu Cong Kao": This style is not natural syllable, so the notabilities don't like it. They consider hard to write and the style's unnatural syllable is the reason why this style didn't highly developed.This paper discusses the characteristics of forms and rules and syllable rhythm of Hexasyllabic Poetry, to make sure whether or not it was from the ancient scholar accounts. In this paper, we will observe the mature Hexasyllabic Poetry in "Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty", based upon analysis of forms and rules and rhythms of every genre, to solve this two problems.This paper is divided into six parts, introduction of the concept of Hexasyllabic Poetry and its development history; summarize evaluations in all dynasties literatures, presents the research value and research methods of Hexasyllabic Poetry.The first chapter introduces this choice of the corpus and its characteristics. After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, WUYAN and QIYAN become the mainstream of Chinese classic poems, the hexasyllabic poetry was become mature correspondingly. "Poems of the Whole Tang Dynasty" is a total anthology of Tang poems, collect 107 hexasyllabic poetries. As a corpus, the number is bigger enough to research.Chapter 2 introduces theories of Qing Dynasties Gu Chun and modern scholars Qi Gong, Cheng Yizhong, made a basic theoretical explanation of forms and rules of hexasyllabic poetry, and made a preliminary summary of hexasyllabic poetry basic format. Chapter 3 is the corpus analysis part.According to different genre,we step by step analyze the forms and rules of Six-character-regular-verse, liupai and hexasyllabic quatrain, have a primary knowledge of forms and rules characteristics of hexasyllabic poetry.Chapter 4 discusses two special cases: Ao Ti and Ze Tonal Poems. hexasyllabic poetry has unrhymed sentence like wuyan poetry and qiyan poetry,has Ao Ti too.In the first part of this chapter,we sum up three forms of Liuyan Ao Ti. In a general case, Metrical poems make a ping-tonal rhyme, our corpus has 7 peoms of Ze tonal rhyme. We make a primary analysis of that in the second part.In the last chapter, by comparison and summarize of different poetic styles, give an answer to the questions which put forward in the beginning of this paper, and sum up our point, that is the underdevelopment of Hexasyllabic Poetry was not result in forms and rules.
