Nowadays, modern civilization is highly developed; in the whole world including the west countries there is a tendency of disliking the industrial city. They think that designing should return to nature, return of humanity. Designing is for human. So people should not only focus on function, but also quality and symbolic meaning from the works, a kind of image.Everyone has his own aesthetic image and emotional characteristics that is influenced by the cultural environment. The Chinese nation has its 5,000-year cultural heritage and rich traditional culture. The Chinese traditional folk art is like a life body; its occurrence and development of the whole process and all aspects are combined with a rich vitality of the spirit, which is to be analyzed in this article as the "image" emotion. As a part of traditional Chinese folk art—the traditional Chinese woodcut New Year pictures, comes from the people, born and raised there. Its root is in the nation's deepest part, being the Chinese most primitive art. Its creation is the perfect combination of practical and aesthetic purpose, but also reflects the Chinese nation's religious beliefs, aesthetic habits, customs and philosophy of the people. It is a symbol of culture, ideas creating images, which penetrates into people's psychological sense, understanding and imagination. Because it completely maintains the primary visual way of thinking, with symbolic, summed up, exaggerated imagery and uses fixed image in the minds of people to express people's aspirations and ideals. Today, we learn the traditional culture, not just to copy, but to tap its inherent nature. The image of the woodcut New Year pictures is the content of our traditional culture and a good starting point to study modern design.In this thesis, by studying this precious non-material cultural heritage and cultural background theme, shape and color, the author analyzes the traditional Chinese aesthetic imagery and characteristics of thinking. In the theoretical study and practical teaching people can better explore the image mode of thinking, image map and color, from which people obtain fresh blood, expanse the cultural dimension of the design and aesthetic concepts, so that our design will go to the world.
