Tsing Zhu is an important anesthetist and composer in recent and modern Chinese music history. He studied in the Huangpu Military elementary school in the early years, and took part in the revolution of 1911, then went to German and studied law. After he came back, he worked in the court and military. Therefore, the time he spent in music composing was not long. But he had made great contributions to the anesthetic and vocal field. As the generation who experienced the May Fourth Movement, he had the representative character of that time, that is to say, receiving the old Chinese education in the childhood, the new education when was younger, and studying in German when he was a youth. All these formed his character, and his style as well. Besides, his marriage had promoted his composing. His lied were the first ones composed by the composer, such as The Sea Running to the East{ Da Jiang Dong Qu) , I live in the Yangtze River head(Wo Zhu Chang Jiang Tou), and the Summer's Setting Sun(Xia Xi). It not only provided a mold to the Chinese lied composing, but also promoted the development of lied in China. As the vocal learner, we realized the unique character and imagination embodied in his lied, and the culture as well. It can help us to improve our professional standards, to know more about Chinese lied, meanwhile, to know our culture better. And his anesthetic book Music and Dialog (Yue Hua)was the first one in China. It not only discussed the problem of the nature of anesthetic, but also illustrated the basic elements formed music, pointing out that the basic element of music was not rhythm but melody, which was a great value to the musical theory in that time.
