The Research On The Controversy Of Eastern Culture And Western Culture Around The May Fourth Movement

Cultural issues always occupy a very important position in the historcaldevelopment of human society. The occurrence of cultural controversyrelated to the social politics, economics or a country’s destiny and future. Ina word, the cultural debate is connected with the country’s society, nation,nature and direction of the revolution. From1915, New Youth issued to the1920s, there was a cultural debate between Eastern and Western. This articlediscusses the social and historical reasons, the process, the central issue, thehistorical evaluation and the contemporary enlightenment of thiscontroversy.In this paper, five parts. The first part discusses the significance of thisdebate, the research situation, the focus of the paper, difficulties andresearch methods and other issues. Thus the writing of this article wereaccurate positioning. The second part of this paper, from a broaderperspective more in-depth discussion of the social and historical reasonscontroversy occurred. The third part analyzes the central issue of thiscontroversy. The cultural diversity, the relationship between new and oldtraditions and the development of Chinese culture are discussed from adifferent perspective of Western culture and Eastern culture. The fourth partdescribes the historical evaluation and enlightment of this controversy. Thispaper argues that this is the most concentrated, enduring and greatestdiscussion on the relationship between Eastern and Western culture sinceancient times; this debate shows that in modern times, the study of Chinesein Western culture has been completed from shallow to deep, outside toinside; this debate also shows that advanced ideology of China has beencompletely freed itselves from the chain of"Chinese Body and Western Usage"and stepped into a new stage to reflect the traditional Chinese cultureand conclude the core values of Chinese feudalism; this debate providesinformation and ideas for the formation of the NewDemocratic Culturesprogram. From this debate, we know that handling the relationship betweenthe Eastern and the Western culture is the importanat piont to realize therenaissance of Chinese culture, especially it is important to settle therelationship between cultures of Marxism, Chinese, Western; In order tobuild a new Chinese national culture, we need to regard the advancedculture as our orientation; In order to build a new Chinese national culture,we need to carry on the Chinese traditional culture critically.
