The Theoretical Discussion And Empirical Study On Filial Piety Personality

The filial piety is Chinese primary culture. According to the viewpoint of culture theory, the filial piety has influence on Chinese personality. The study on the filial piety mainly has concentrated on philosophy, history and humanities presently, however, researches of filial piety from the psychological angle are few. It's the first time to study the filial piety personality combining the theory discussion with empirical method at present. It not only enriches the personality study and initiates new direction of the study of personality, but also is helpful to the localization of personality research by combining the native culture with personality.This research divides into two parts: The first part is theory discussion of the filial piety personality from culture and psychology angle. The second part is to study the structure of filial piety personality with empirical technique, while, the second part contains three researches. The first research is to make the frequency words list of actual pre-parents self, the ideal pre-parents self and the ought pre-parents self with ideographic method, literature method, interview method and the analysis of word frequency and so on, and then compares with three words lists.The second research is studying the structure of filial piety personality with nomothetic method, the explorational factor analysis, and then confirms this structure with verificational factor analysis. The third research has discussed the relevance of filial piety personality and the traditional personality characters with the correlation analysis method and the descriptive statistics method. This study finally obtains following results:1. It is different among the actual pre-parents self, the ideal pre-parents self and the ought pre-parents self.2. The actual pre-parents self is bipolarity, but the ideal pre-parents self and the ought pre-parents self are unipolar.3. The ideal pre-parents self and the ought pre-parents self are congruous. 4. The structure of the filial piety personality makes up seven factors: indulging/willful, astringent/controlling oneself, extroverted/active, temperate/charitable, capable/competent, kind/great ambition, filial/ considerate/careless.5. There is remarkable positive correlation between the filial piety personality and Charity/kind, loyal/forgiveness/Collectivism, politeness/tame, Peace-loving, Conservative, backward, Lack of rights awareness, Indisputable patience.6. There are different acceptance among Charity/kind, loyal/forgiveness/Collectivism, politeness/tame, Peace love, Conservative, backward, Lack of rights awareness, indisputable patience to young people.
