Auguste Franchome (1808—1884),who is one of the most important cellists and composers in France. His 12 etudes(op.35)have become a model and been widely used in teaching. His opuses not only stand for a summit about cello playing skill in the 19th century, but also play an important part in the history of cello development wholly. The essay will be based on the whole content of these opuses to have a research and expatiation on some elements such as playing skill, skill difficulty, dealing with the opus, melody structure and rhythm technique as a whole and to give some suggestions on practicing when there are some skill obstacles needed to be overcome in real practicing. The essay is striving to get theory from practice and then to practise under the guidance of theory. Accordingly, it can achieve an academic value to some extent and bear a practical one for playing and teaching cello at the same time.
