David Popper (1843-1913) is a renowned virtuoso cellist and composer of Czech, who made indelible contribution in the advance of cello performing technique. His High School Of Cello Playing - 40 Etude, is considered as the technical bible of the professional cellist. In this article I analyze the chromatic, rhythmic pattern, tempo, strength and the degree of difficulty of the etude. I also introduce the technique of cello performance in the etude, focusing on the breakthrough of the exercise of thumb, double stop, harmonic, and the relationship with the other music works. Finally I give some suggestions about how to conquer the main difficulties when practicing.
