Research On The Relationships Between Parents' Goal, Parental Involvement And Students' Achievement Goal Orientations

With the development of achievement goal theory, attention to the effects of family on students'goal orientations become more and more during these days. In the context, this research discusses the effect of parents'goal and parental involvement separately. This research is made using a survey directed at 289 middleschool students and their parents in order to give light on relationships between parents'personal working goal, parents'goal and students'achievement goal orientations; parental involvement questionnaire is developed and divided into 7 deminsions,and then their relationships to students'goal orientation are analyzed. Structure models reveal that parents'goal mediate parents' personal goal in directing students'goal orientations. Multiple regression analyses show that different deminsions of parental involvement have different effects on students'goal orientations. These results are benefit to uncover the ways of parents'personal working goal, parents'goal and parental involvement on students'goal orientations. Here are the results:1. Perceived parents'goal can predict students'goal orientations.2. Parents'goal reported by parents can predict students'goal orientations.3. Parents'goal mediate parents'personal working goal in predicting students'goal orientations.Parental involvement as a whole cannot predict students'goal orientations.4. Different deminsions of parental involvement have different effects on students'goal orientations.
