Overviewed the whole history of China, the late Qing Dynasty (from the First Opium War to the establishment of the Republic of China) is a very important turning period. Because of the deep influence of the Western capitalism, China was forced to carry out some reformations. Profound changes occurred in various aspects of Chinese society, such as politics, economics, culture, and so on.During late Qing Dynasty, the Transmission of the Western Learning to the East had re-started, and then the western statistics was introduced into China through the Customs. However, for a long time, it had not widely spread in China. The paper analyzes the reasons through the introduction of related events and conclude that China and western countries had their own purpose on the Customs in late Qing Dynasty, and the two sides couldn't reach a necessary'fit point'in the spread of western statistics. This is the main reason that made the statistics in the Customs had not spread quickly.The thesis is divided into five parts: the introduction part mainly describes the origin of the problem, study object, literature review and major research methods; Part II, chapter 1, introduces the related background knowledge, including the history of the western statistics and ancient Chinese statistics, the establishment of the Customs of late Qing Dynasty. Part III, chapter II, focuses on the main contents about the west statistics introduced into the Customs; Part IV, Chapter III, analyzes the effects of the western statistics on China and the related reasons; the conclusion part emphasizes the'fit point'between China and western countries during the Transmission of the Western Learning to the East, and the characteristic of the politics- dominating of the ancient Chinese society.
