Research On Educational Value Of The Genealogy

"The family has its genealogy as the each country has its own history." It's an important cultural phenomenon to put emphasis on the revision of the genealogy. Although the genealogy has been damaged seriously, and the revision of genealogy was in silent due to long been regarded as bad custom. But as the proceeding of the opening and reform policy and the prosperity of the economy, the revision of genealogy has been gradually revitalized. Whether it's the dregs of society floating up again or return of rationality, this problem aroused great reflection.Since Song Dynasty, the genealogy has always been regarded as the important teaching material of family education. Compiling genealogy and related activities have been seen as a significant means of family education, which plays an important role in traditional education. However, as the changes of social system and social environment, whether the original education value still existed? This essay gives a detailed analysis and research of education value from three aspects of education function, education content and education characteristics. The author employed document analysis combined with field investigation as the major research method. From field demand, library and internet searching, the reading of ten or more genealogies, the author analyzed education content and education characteristics of the genealogy. Taken the method of field investigation in three typical significant villages, given out more than one hundred investigation questionnaires, investigated about ten local residents, the author compared and analyzed the educational function of genealogy to modern rural society based on above methods. The research result shows:the genealogy exerts positive influence on recording family history, maintaining the union of family, and promoting family development, even safeguarding the social stability. It's still of consultative significance of knowledge and experience in recorded daily life and interpersonal relations of genealogy. Especially its moral education content, traditional Confucian ethics as its core, is a sum-up of experience in production and life from generation to generation. Systematical excavation and arrangement of ethical education contents in genealogy have a great significance in inheriting our country's splendid historical and cultural traditions and promoting the socialist ideological and ethical building. Meanwhile, as the paradigm of traditional and typical genealogical and family education, genealogical education has its special characteristics in education ideology, education form and education means, etc. It's of enlightening significance in our country's modern genealogical education, family education and ideological and ethical education from summarizing above experience.Family is the basis of a country. In China, such a country of deep sense of family traditions, it's a feasible education method to make full use of blood ties exerting educational influence on citizens while neutrally facing the existence of family power. As a result, rationally regarding the genealogy and revising activities, it's beneficial to both promoting the harmony of the family and safeguard the stability of the society by guiding properly and making good use of genealogy and revising activities.
