Anna Karenina and Fan Yi is one of the most representative images of tragic women respectively, they have great similarity in their experience in life and tragic ending. It not only originates from related subject of literature tradition, but also stems from the common developing history of human and the homogeneous characteristic of humanity. Through analyzing their tragedies from the perspectives of history and society and humanity, we can summarize some kind of narrating plot modes,namely,the malposition of material and spirits;the clash between tradition and modernity; the combating between self and others;the quick moving between hope and despair. These modes shape its interior frame of the concrete text. Analyzing and concluding from comparative angle not only help us understand the often controversial images of Anna Karenina and Fan Yi more completely, but also improve our understanding ability to the meaning of female tragedy, and its reflected problems.Moreover, it can enlighten people solving related problems in modern society.This essay includes four parts:Chapter one:the malposition of material and spirits.This chapter is the seed and bud of tragedy. It analyzes the reasons which cause Anna Karenina and Fan Yi ending with tragedy. It said that, the traditional marriage based on the historical tradition of male-dominant which considers Man is superior to woman, and the concept of marriage which arranges a match by parents'order and on the matchmaker's word. Although women can live a rich life through that, it in fact not only results in the inequality between husband and wife, but also oppresses women's intrinsic disposition, as a result, making their material life and spiritual life can't unified.In the end, after the women whose feelings have been oppressed encountered the loved man, they easily take their emotion repelled and opposed by then society as the omnipotent key which can open the window to happy life, but doing so also opens the door to life tragedy.Chapter two:the clash between tradition and modernity. Outlining the plot mode on the starting phase, namely, the exclusion and persecution by the feudal force of tradition. Countless Anna and Fan Yi chained by the social concept can't go for love freely, even if they encounter the true love, the final tragedies of their love are inevitable. Given this,this chapter said, the stubborn decadent force is an evil backstage manipulator who caused the female tragedy. They not only blocked the healthy development of humanity, but also forced some beautiful mind into the hopeless abyss.Chapter three:the combating between self and others. It from microcosmic angle reveals the negative evolving process of female tragedy, it embodies the plot mode of the related people fighting for their own interest. The foul outside surroundings likes activator, it seriously destroyed the relation of sweethearts, who want to break through the traditional barrier for pursuing freedom and happiness.This kind of destruction and contradiction coming from outside to inside deepen the female tragedy.Chapter four:The quick move between hope and despair. It anatomizes the extreme state of the tragedy and its finishing process.All the factors of the outside interference and the contradiction between parties, adding their own character shortcoming, convert into the activator which facilitate the final end of the female tragedy. The woman like Anna or Fan Yi confronting the plight of dilemma caused by various reasons, eventually cannot but end or distort their miserable life with extreme methods.
