The Study On Li-Zengbo

Li Zengbo(李曾伯)lived in latter period of Southern Song and experienced the times of Ning zong(宁宗),Li zong(理宗)and Du zong(度宗)His main achievement was in Li zong period. When he was yong, he travelled the regions of Jiang huai and Jing shu, and acted as a general in decade. Therefore, he accumulated rich practical experience which laid the good foundation for his ruling districts.Li Zengbo was appointed to act as "Zhi zhi shi" in 1242, then became Huai Xi "Zhi zhi shi" for ruling Yang Zhou. Since he became a politician, this was first time for him to hold the post of "Zhi zhi shi". In the two states of Huai, Li Zengbo commanded and resisted enemies, regained Shou Chun, and repaired the military places of Tai Zhou, Shou Chun and Si Zhou. All of these were prepared for further defense. In 1250, he transferred from Guang Zhou"Xuan fu shi" to Jing Hu "Zhi zhi shi". In the state of Jing hu, he led the famous battle of Xiang Yang. The battle, which was the rare successful battle in military history of Southern Song dynasty, encouraged the mood of the army. Furthermore, he developed "Tun Tian" consoled refugees, carried out the trade of "Que Chang". What's more important, he sent Gao Da to rebuild the two cities of "Xiang" and "Fan". Hence, he was promoted to Jing hu "Zhi zhi shi" in one year. In 1254, he became a scholar of "Zi zheng dian", then he was appointed as Si Chuan "Xuan fu shi" and was vouchsafed the identity of "Tong Jin shi". In Janaury of 1258, Li Zengbo ruled Jing Jiang as Guang Nan "Zhi zhi shi". Guang Xi had waek military and complexity environment. Facing stong Mongolian army, Li Zengbo sent the troops to put up a fight. Although he defended the stability of Guang Xi temporally, he can not stop the aggression of Mongolian army. It was because of the huge disparity of the two armies. So Li Zengbo was deposed.Li Zengbo was appointed to act as general of Huai Dong. Huai Xi, Jing Shu. Guang Xi and coastal places. Commanded many battles, Li Zengbo formed his series of militory ideology. He had his unique thinking about "Tian shi", "Di li", "Ren he" of "Meng zi". His thinking had militory and practical significance. So the status of Li Zengbo was important in later Southern Song. However, Song Li zong favored traitors and believed calumnies, so many good generals had miserable endings. Du zong was controlled by Jia Si dao(贾似道), who envyed wisdom, appointed villain and exclude loyal ministers. Jia Si dao excluded many capable generals by using " Da Suan Fa". Therefore, Li Zengbo was envyed by Jia Si dao undoubtedly, and he was deposed finally.
