| Mental rotation is one of the basic components of the human being's spatial ability, and it is one of the important standards in scaling spatial intelligence. Moreover, it is an important question to discuss in space cognitive fields and has got more attention currently. Plane surface view is an important learning contents for junior high school students We learned three-dimensional figure's left view and planform knowledge in order to foster the junior high school students' mental rotation ability in the traverse plane and the sagittal plane.In this research, we used three-dimensional views to investigate the differences of the mental rotation among different grades, different sexes and two planes, in order to investigate their reaction time and error times.The conclusions are as followings:1. There are prominent differences in mental rotation between the traverse plane and the sagittal plane, and the mental rotation ability of the sagittal plane is better than the mental rotation of the traverse plane. The mental rotation adopts whole and part mixed process mode in the traverse plane, and the mental rotation adopts whole process mode in the sagittal plane. The different mental rotation process modes of the two planes aroused different mental rotation of the two planes.2. The reaction time of the mental rotation changed with the complexity of the stimulate materials, the complexity of the stimulate materials influenced the speed of the mental rotation. More complex the stimulate materials are, the higher speed the mental rotation is. The judgment ability of the mental rotation changed with the complexity of the stimulate materials, and the complexity of the stimulate materials influenced the judgment ability of the mental rotation. The more complex the stimulate materials are, the lower judgment ability of the mental rotation is.3. There are no prominent differences in mental rotation between the traverse plane and the sagittal plane for easy stimulate materials. There are prominent differences in mental rotation between the traverse plane and the sagittal plane for complicated stimulate materials. The mental rotation of the sagittal plane excelled the mental rotation of the traverse plane.4. There is a prominent difference between sexes in the mental rotation ability, but the difference only existed in the speed of the mental rotation in the traverse plane. The male's speed of mental rotation on traverse plane is higher than those of females'.5. The development of junior high school students' judgment ability on mental rotation has stage characters in the traverse plane. There are no prominent differences between Grade one and Grade two on mental rotation and their mental rotation ability is steady. There is an interim in Grade two, and there is a rush hour in Grade three.
