For English learners, listening and speaking are their initial linguistic input and output; however these two competences prove to be very difficult to develop, especially for vocational school students.To improve students' listening and speaking competence, I introduced the Communicative Language Teaching into the class of listening and speaking. The attempt is to try to creat English communicative situation to involve students in the activities, to enhance students' interest in English and let them play a main role in the English class.To test the validity of my endeavor, I chose two classes 07 (10, 17) as the pilot group, and one class 07(4) as the reference group.With the aim to improve the students' listening and speaking competence, I used several teaching methods, such as, pair-work, group-work, role-play and so on, to give students more chance to use English in class, to engage students in an active part in the English classes, to encourage students to use English more actively.Before the experiment, I tested students' listening and got their scores. After the experiment, I made an analysis of the test results of the study, using the SPSS. And the analyses shows that after one year, the students of the pilot group made greater progress in the listening test than those of the reference group, and the pilot group are more active in the speaking English , they now speak English with more fluency and more confidence. The result shows that the Communicative Language Teaching can help improve the listening and speaking competence. And the students of the pilot group showed greater interest in English learning and made progress in their listening and speaking.This thesis consists of 6 chapters, the 1st chapter introduces the definition and development of the Communicative Language Teaching; the 2nd chapter will discuss the current English-learning status in vocational schools, and the necessity of the introduction of Communicative Language Teaching; the 3rd chapter will introduce the the implementation of the experiment; the 4th chapter will give an analysis of the experimental results and the data of the experiment; the 5th chapter will reflect on the achievements and limitations of the experiment; the 6th chapter will raise some suggestion for better application of communicative approach in English teaching.
