A Multi-angle Research Of The Word "Jiezhe" And Its Same-class Words

This thesis intends to research into the word "jiezhe(接着) " mainly,with explorations of the words of its same class.It analyses,on the basis of language facts, the synchronic usage of the modern Chinese word "jiezhe(接着) ",describes its syntactic functions and meanings,discusses its process and mechanism of delexicalization,and explores its discourse functions and roles of appearance.This thesis comprises four parts:IntroductionThis part aims to make plain the significance and theoretical basis of this research,the methods applied in this thesis,and the source of language data used throughout the thesis.It introduces the previous research into the word "jiezhe(接着) "in detail as well.Chapterl Syntactic and Semantic Analysis of the word "jiezhe(接着) "This chapter mainly studies the syntactic and semantic features of the word "jiezhe(接着) ",describes its different syntactic functions and meanings respectively,and investigates the sentence pattern"……jiezhe(接着)……".Chapter2 The process and mechanism of delexicalization of the word "jiezhe(接着)"This chapter is an inductive generalization of the historical evolution of the word "jiezhe(接着) ",which can be depicted as "content word(verb)——function word(adverb)—function word(conjunction)...discourse marker,based on the synchronic analysis made in the previous chapter. Chapter3 The discourse functions of the word "jiezhe(接着) "and rules of its appearanceThis chapter researches into the discourse functions of the word "jiezhe(接着)", and proposes that the word "jiezhe(接着) " serves a function of taking turns in conversations.The appearance or disappearance of "jiezhe(接着) " falls into two categories:must appear or not necessarily appear,which is primarily restricted by the semantic meaning and rules of rhyming.Chapter4 Exploration of the same-class words of "jiezhe(接着)"——for example:"shaohou(稍后) "and "jiexialai(接下来) "This chapter explores other time connectives such as "shaohou(稍后)","jiexialai (接下来) "which convey the meaning of "later".Contrastive analysis is employed to figure out the similarities and differences among them in syntactic,semantic and pragmatic use.
