XUAN YING YIN YI (Interpretation of Pronunciations and Meanings in Tripitaka) assumably came into being before BC 664.This thesis is a case study on it, aiming at concluding the characteristics of the framework of the Tripitaka in which XUAN YING YIN YI rooted and the standards of the sutras which should be collected into the Tripitaka and evaluating the status and values of this Tripitaka in the phylogeny of early Manuscript Tripitaka.The philogical methods are mainly adopted in this thesis. Twelve editions of XUAN YING YIN YI were collated to confirm the catalog of sutras collected in it. On this condition, after analyzing the framework of the Tripitaka XUAN YING YIN YI rooted in and comparing with the past and contemporary Tripitaka Catalogs, the Tripitaka XUAN YING YIN YI rooted in is defined as a Tripitaka which represented the maturity and accomplishment of the framework of the Chinese Tripitaka.And then compared with the standards of the sutras which should be collected into the Tripitaka of the past and contemporary Tripitaka Catalogs, the Tripitaka XUAN YING YIN YI rooted in is defined as a conservative Tripitaka which emphasized Mahayana and translated works more than Hinayana and Chinese Buddhist works.
