Research On Revenge Motif In Records Of Spirits

Records of Spirits is one of the best mythical stories during Wei, Jin and Southern-Northern Dynasties. Many stories are very short and simple. However, it has its own particular characteristics and charm, such as, rich in content, narrative is quite vivid, and deep value.My graduation thesis chooses the theme of revenge motif, and research it from the ideological, content, artistic features and other aspects. This thesis has three chapters in total.Chapter I is about the relationship between Gan Bao's ideas the motif of revenge. Confucian ethics endorsed revenge; Taoism and Buddhism preach karma, both of which impact on the revenge motif in Records of Spirits.Chapter II focuses on the content and characteristics of the motif of revenge in Records of Spirits. The content includes revenge protagonists and the way of revenge. The thesis summarizes four main characters of revenge:innocent people who were killed and their descendants, innocent animals who were killed, who asked not be met, and "KE"with chivalry. The way of revenge of including: on its own power, with the power of others, through the power of God. Characteristics of the motif of revenge including:revenge is the justice, revenge is inevitable, and the main characters in revenge motif are always very weak.Chapter III studies on the narrative art of the revenge motif in Records of Spirits. Narrative art characterized in:the use of multiple narrative perspectives, combined with real and fictional, combine the subjective and objective.
