Silk is not only the ancient in most of the important production categories, and the ancient Silk Road on the important commodities. Silk pattern, color, type of not only other ranking, irrespective of the status symbol, but also embodies the essence of Art Deco, Art was given high status and even cultural. Therefore, it arouses scholar's research enthusiasm from different fields.The technology of silk production in Tang dynasty has greatly improved based on the previous dynasty. At the same time, new organization of silk has emerged under the influence of western silk productions'technology. And the decorative patterns on silk have also met its peak in its history, reflecting the thought of Tang's craftsmen that'not only care about the technology, but also love art'. In those decorative patterns, it is not only patterns that come from the west, but also new ones that is the combination of China's traditional pattern and western ones which are found in weaving, dyeing and embroider. In this paper, the methods of classification is used to depart the silk patterns of Tang Dynasty into the smallest units, which is the basis of this paper for the further analysis of the organization of silk patterns. In this paper, the methods of archaeological typology, in the Tang Dynasty silk-kind silk pattern based on the classification of the smallest units, and further analysis of the organization of silk patterns. Meanwhile, other works of art decorated with contemporary comparison, the special nature of silk decorative patterns and decorative art Sassanid Persian silk decoration of the Tang Dynasty. This paper consists of four chapters.Chapter one introduces the significance of this study, the history and current status of silk pattern study, the purpose of the study, and methods used in the paper.Chapter two concentrates on the classification of silk's technology and pattern of Tang Dynasty, which is the basis of the paper.Chapter three concerns the periodization of silk patterns in Tang Dynasty upon to the classification in the last chapter.Chapter four concentrates on the comparison between silk patterns and other kind of art decor in Tang Dynasty. Upon to this, the author analyses the specification of silk patterns in Tang Dynasty and the influence from Sassanid dynasty. The last part summarizes the main conclusions of this paper, points out the innovation points and problems needed to carry out further study in the future.
